Celebrating 55 Years In 2022!

Queensland Youth Music Awards (QYMA) is an independent non-profit annual music competition, uniting school ensembles and choirs from across south east Queensland in music making.

QYMA's format, as it is seen today was established in 1994. It was previously run for 16 years as The Pine Rivers Music Contest for primary and secondary schools and prior as a Talent Quest run by Ashgrove/The Gap Methodist Churches.

The competition now caters for approximately 200 ensembles and choirs from different schools and represents one of the largest school music eisteddfods in Queensland.

Through the efforts and dedication of the current executive committee, advisors, supporters and volunteer teams, QYMA has successfully catered for thousands of young singers and instrumentalists and has awarded more than $250,000 in prize money during its history.

Collage About Us

The contest places a strong emphasis on providing young musicians with a supportive performance environment, while at the same time, it encourages a standard of musical excellence.

Students are applauded and encouraged by QYMA's adjudicators who are respected leaders in their specialised area of musical expertise and over the years, the competition has drawn a number of notable supporters. In 1997, world renown classical pianist, Piers Lane, who was a prize winner in one of the early Talent Quests, became QYMA Patron.

QYMA has evolved over the years, and in response to demand, programs and sections have varied.

Why not give your school the opportunity to join our supportive and encouraging music making environment! At Queensland Youth Music Awards, we believe that every performance is a success as they highlight the benefits of teamwork, overcoming challenges and improving confidence
